77-year-old man dead after shooting in Hardeeville

77-year-old Ernest Martin Steven has died, according to the Jasper County coroner.

Hardeeville Police are investigating his shooting death, which happened near Ulman Street Thursday morning.

Jennifer Haney lives close to Advanced Auto Parts. She said she heard about 10 gunshots just before 9 a.m. Thursday.

She said she looked outside a window and saw an older white male in a blue Ford truck coasting through the parking lot behind Advanced Auto Parts. The truck came to a stop in between the two parking lot curbs.

She said the victim lives a street down from her.

Officers are searching for a man between 5’ 10” and 6’ in height who may have short dreadlocks, a long, black shirt and jean shorts as a suspect in this shooting.

He was last seen heading toward Boyd Street.

There is no word on the condition of the shooting victim or details about what led up to the incident.

Hardeeville police are expected to hold a briefing at 1 p.m.
