Savannah-Chatham Metro police have taken into custody a man wanted in the December armed robbery and shooting of two men near Abercorn and W. Magnolia streets.
At 4 a.m. Wednesday, the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office was notified that a wanted person was possibly located at a home on Brown Street in the City of Brooklet, according to a news release from the office.
Anthony LaRoche Jr. was wanted out of Savannah by the U.S. Marshal’s Office on charges of aggravated assault, armed robbery and failure to register as a sex offender.
Bulloch County deputies responded and met with members of the Brooklet Police Department at that location, the release said.
LaRoche ran into a back bedroom of a mobile home and barricaded himself along with a woman.
It was believed the woman, a riend of LaRoche, was being held against her will at the time, according to the release.
The Sheriff’s Tactical Apprehension and Control Team responded to the scene along with a hostage negotiator.
When the negotiations failed it was determined that the female hostage was possibly in need of medical attention. The T.A.C. team deployed and used less lethal weapons to rescue the hostage, the release continued.
LaRoche surrendered shortly thereafter. LaRoche was taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries to his hand. The woman wasn’t injured.
LaRoche has been turned over to SCMPD and is being held at the Chatham County Jail.
