One person was found dead in a burned Savannah home early Thursday morning, according to Savannah Fire.
Crews were called to the home on Cottingham Drive shortly after 8 a.m. on March 8 after neighbors saw smoke and flames coming from the single story brick home, according to a news release.
Fire officials say an engine was on scene within four minutes and firefighters had to forced their way in through the locked front door.
"Units worked to search the home and battle the fire, which was fueled by the jumble of personal items and debris stored inside the home," the release stated.
A person was found dead inside a rear bedroom of the home.
Investigators say the person died after they fell asleep while smoking.
