Sheriff Wilcher and the Chatham County Sheriff's Office are proud to offer the Operation New Hope program and host their April adoption event.
Operation New Hope brings in dogs from local shelters to the Chatham County jail, where they are trained by both male and female inmates, the Sheriff's office says.
With this training, dogs are certified with the AKC Canine Good Citizen Award, which increases their chances of getting adopted, while providing the inmates with valuable animal care skills.
For the month of April, the program will have 15 dogs up for adoption from two different shelters: Lovable Paws Rescue and Chatham County Animal Services.
The dogs will be available for adoption on Saturday, April 21 from 9-11 a.m. at the Chatham County Sheriff's Office, located at 1050 Carl Griffin Drive.
Adoption fees will depend on the shelter from which the dog came.
