Savannah Police Department detectives are asking for the public’s help identifying a man seen going through the center console of an unlocked car and stealing several items.

The crime happened in a parking lot on the 14000 block of Abercorn Street on January 20, according to a news release.

Early that morning at around 4 a.m., dash camera video footage capture man entering the unlocked vehicle and going through the center console. He stole numerous items, including a tablet, according to police.

The man then drove away in a red compact car that was parked next to the victim’s vehicle.

Police say the victim’s vehicle was left unlocked and the theft took less than two minutes.

"The majority of these crimes are crimes of opportunity. One of the best ways to prevent entering auto and auto theft is to remove your belongings, take your keys and always lock your doors," police said in the release.
