Savannah-Chatham Metro police are gearing up for this year’s tribute to the nation’s soldiers.
Traffic will be detoured on several downtown streets in preparation for the 2017 Veterans Day Parade, which steps off at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11.
Streets will be cleared as early as 6 a.m.
The staging area will be on Abercorn Street and runs from Duffy to Gaston, then from Drayton to Lincoln. The parade begins at Gaston and Abercorn streets then disbands at Broughton and Price streets.
Police are reminding everyone this event will affect downtown traffic flow, as well as residential and visitor parking.
Parking within the staging area and along the parade route will be impacted starting at 12:01 a.m. Friday. Detailed road closure and parking information is available on scmpd.org.
No parking zones will be marked prior to the parade. Vehicles remaining in no parking zones after the indicated times will be towed at the owner’s expense.
Traffic flow is expected to return to normal by 2 p.m.
Police are asking drivers to plan routes accordingly and to exercise caution and patience during the parade.
