SALEM, Ore. - A 90-year-old motorcyclist who collided head-on with a car Thursday morning is expected to survive his injuries, the Marion County Sheriff's Office said.

The crash happened just after 9 a.m. as Virgil Bolen of Salem rode his motorcycle north on Cordon Road near State Street, deputies said.

Investigators say a southbound car driven by Kaye Young, 52, of Salem "turned east in front of the motorcycle causing both vehicles to collide head on."

The sheriff's office described Bolen's injuries as "serious" but said he is expected to survive.

"Young was not injured in the collision and has been issued a citation for making a dangerous left hand turn," the sheriff's office said.

The crash investigation closed Cordon Road between State Street and Auburn Road NE.
