AMHERST Co., Va. (WSET) -- A GoFundMe has been set up for a family in Amherst County after a tornado destroyed their home in the Elon area.

Leecy Fink posted on Facebook that she and her family are alive and safe, but you can see that her home is gone.

Amy Loughhead Moore, who created the GoFundMe account, said that the Finks were unable to get out of the neighborhood before the reported tornado and only had moments to get the whole family in the basement.

She said that they held a door over them while huddling under the basement steps.

The house was wiped away and water began pouring in and the HVAC system, along with the hot water heater, began shocking them.

According to the GoFundMe Page, the Fink family was able to leave the neighborhood and they were picked up to stay with friends.

"Gary, Leecy, and their five children have amazing strength in God and know that He will get them through," it said.
