Quick spreading fire in Moab, Utah damage homes and buildings

MOAB, Utah (KUTV) — Eleven structures, including 8 homes, were destroyed on Tuesday by a quickly-spreading fire in Moab.

Two garages and one shop were among the destroyed buildings.

According to authorities, the fire began at 5:50 p.m. on Tuesday. The blaze was reported to the Grand County Sheriff's Office dispatch center.

Initial reports stated that structures were being threatened by the fire, authorities say.

Residents in the path of the fire were quickly evacuated.

"Despite the tremendous efforts of firefighters, early reports indicate that eight homes, two parking canopies and one garage were destroyed by the fire," a news release states.

"Five firefighters and a small number of civilians were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and/or heat," the news release states.

The cause of the fire is currently not known.
