SAN ANTONIO - A group of volunteers from Community Bible Church called "Godly Grillers" hosted its monthly barbecue Monday for all San Antonio area first responders.
The volunteers cook for wounded warriors at SAMMC at least four times a year as well.
They say it's the least they can do to honor those who put their lives on the line to help others.
“What more appropriate of a day to recognize and serve first responders than 9/11? I mean, these are the people that go in when everybody else is trying to get out, and it just touches your heart,” explained Community Bible Church Volunteer Chuck Gray.
“I feel honored,” said Jimmy Foster from the San Antonio Police Department. “It's very nice of these guys to do this for us.”
The Godly Grillers have been doing events like these for more than a decade.
“I came in and they shook my hand four or five times. 'Thank you, sir' ... 'thank you, sir' ... Well, thank YOU for having me here. That was a good thing,” said Jose Niño, Bexar County District Attorney's Office Criminal Investigator.
