UNION, Maine (WGME) – A New York woman has been reunited with her cat, who's been missing for the last six months.

Back in July, Jean Stevens was visiting Union with her family from New York. On her way back, she noticed smoke was coming from her car, and when they pulled over to check it out, 6-year-old cat Myla jumped out and ran away.

Jean stayed in Maine for a few days searching for Myla, but came up empty handed.

She used Facebook to ask people to keep an eye out, and a group of women from Union who didn't know her, or one another, joined together and made it their mission to find Myla.

For months, they followed up on sightings, until a woman claimed she’d been feeding a cat who resembled the one people had been searching for.

They trapped the cat and the microchip matched. Myla was reunited with her mom on Sunday.
