Members of Congress from both parties have been very vocal about the president’s efforts on trade and the economy. I spoke with Congressman Francis Rooney, the Vice-Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, about his views on the president’s work on trade. Here’s what he said:

ROONEY: When you look at NAFTA, and I know the president's taken a lot of heat about NAFTA, and I'm one of the ones that's hopeful that he will keep NAFTA, but fix it and have the products under NAFTA that carry a 15 percent or more tariff: seven percent of Canada’s do that. Five percent of Mexico's do that. Less than three percent of the United States is do that. So the presidents instinct is good that we need to do some reform up there.

BORIS: What do you think of the recent trade negotiations between President Trump and the head of the European Commission, Juncker? Do you think that an actual deal is going to get worked out?

ROONEY: I hope so. I mean, I think that there's a will. I think will's been demonstrated and I think that the business community certainly behind that.

BORIS: What part of the EU’s imports to the US and our exports to the EU. Which specific products do you think should be the biggest focus?

ROONEY: So cars are always a big one. Okay. Uh, agricultural commodities are the two biggest things we hear about cars and agricultural commodities and so cars coming from Europe and yeah, it's got to be reciprocal, right? To have a fair-trade deal. It's got to be reciprocal.

Here's the Bottom Line: Fair and reciprocal trade deals are key to fully unleashing the American economy. Members of Congress have to work closely with the administration to make sure policies are implemented which put America first.
