Colleton County, S.C. (WPDE) -- Two people are dead and two are injured following a three-vehicle, tractor trailer wreck on SC 63 in Colleton County Thursday, according to L.Cpl. Matt Southern with SCHP.
The wreck happened around 11:50 a.m. SC 63 (Sniders Highway) near Brick Road.
The first driver was traveling eastbound on SC 63 in a 2006 freight-liner tractor trailer, and two others were traveling westbound on SC 63. The driver of the third vehicle, a Hyundai SUV, drove into the oncoming lane and struck the tractor trailer.
The tractor trailer then struck the second vehicle, a Toyota Avalon, as a result.
Both the tractor trailer and the Toyota then ran off the road, striking trees. The tractor trailer then caught on fire.
The driver of a tractor trailer was partially ejected from the vehicle and died on scene. It is unknown if they were wearing a seat belt. The driver of the Hyundai SUV was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and also died on scene.
The driver and passenger of the Toyota were injured. The driver was airlifted to MUSC and the passenger was taken to MUSC by EMS for treatment.
The wreck is being investigated by SCHP and the Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT.)
