City of Savannah awarded construction contract for the multimillion-dollar arena
At Thursday's city council meeting, city council voted to award the arena project's construction contract to AECOM Hunt.
This means the city is one step closer to breaking ground on the arena.
Thursday's vote did not come easy.
At the meeting, the council also heard and rejected an appeal from JE Dunn, one of the construction companies that lost the bid to the project.
JE Dunn accused the city of improperly handling the bidding process.
City Manager Rob Hernandez said this is not true.
Some of the city council members said they too were weary of the bidding process.
"It bothers me to start out with clouds over a project of this size," said Alderman Tony Thomas.
