County officials host groundbreaking ceremony for Memorial Stadium
On Thursday, County Chairman Al Scott was joined by fellow commissioners for the Memorial Stadium Groundbreaking Ceremony.
Voters approved the funding for the 5,000 seat stadium in the 2014 Special Purpose Local Options Sales Tax (SPLOST)
“This particular stadium with the field house component it will be able to accommodate events and multiple sports and were hoping to make it a gathering place,” said Scott.
The stadium is designed of home and visitor grandstand bleachers, a press box, official’s rooms, synthetic turf striped for high school football, soccer and lacrosse. An Eight foot wide recreational track, stadium lighting, score board and additional unpaved parking.
Also included in the project is a Memorial Plaza at the north end of the site to honor fallen soldiers of Chatham County.
Fields will be ready by August and total project completion slated for early 2019.
