Effingham County deputies investigating apparent murder-suicide
The Effingham County Sheriff's Office is investigating an apparent murder-suicide that happened Tuesday morning, according to a release.
Deputies were called to the scene just before 7 a.m. after receiving a call that there had been a shooting in the 200 block of Woodland Drive. When they arrived, they found Charles Ellis Morgan Jr., 45, and his wife Korina Morgan, 34, both shot in an attempted murder-suicide, the release states.
Deputies say Korina Morgan was pronounced dead at the scene. Charles Morgan was transported to Effingham Memorial Hospital, where he later died.
The initial investigation shows that it appears Charles Morgan shot his wife then turned the gun on himself, deputies say.
The investigation is ongoing.
