SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTGS FOX 28) — Local, state and federal transportation leaders gathered Friday morning to talk about the state of transportation in the Savannah area.
The gathering spot was the Jimmy DeLoach Parkway Extension site where construction is currently underway. The project will connect the parkway from U.S. 80 to I-16.
The U.S. Department of Transportation Under Secretary was on hand to offer praise all the way from Washington D.C.
“This is a great project where you see state leaders and local leaders saying, we need this done, now let’s go to the federal government to say this is how much we have and this is how much we need," said Under Secretary Derek Kahn. "Doing things big and doing things creatively are the two areas that we really look to Georgia to learn from.”
The current construction completion date for the parkway extension is Oct. 31, 2021.
