Friday, gold medal Olympian Jackie Joyner-Kersee was in Savannah helping the Frank Callen Boys and Girls Clubs 100 years of service in the Hostess City.

Since 1917 the Frank Callen Boys & Girls Club has been serving Savannah’s youth and providing a safe place for them to learn and grow. The Frank Callen Boys & Girls Club serves a diverse group of children age 5 to 18. Over 1,000 members come from a variety of backgrounds, with a special effort to reach out to those from disadvantaged circumstances.

Before headlining the 100 Year Anniversary Celebration Gala, Kersee stopped by the club to meet and deliver an inspirational message to Savannah children.

“Never give up, believe in the impossible, turn a doubter into a believer. Let them know that they have the power to change minds and change their own direction and stay focused on their own goals,” said Kersee.

Savannah’s own Lady Mahogany was the M.C. of the Gala that was held Friday evening at the Savannah International Trade Center.
