Homicide on Ogeechee Road led to a shootout with police, GBI investigating
Two people are dead after a Saturday night homicide on Ogeechee Road led to an officer-involved shooting.
Savannah Police and Georgia State Patrol responded to reports of a shooting at America's Best Value Inn on the 4000 block of Ogeechee Road around 11:35 p.m.
Spokesperson for SPD, Keturah Greene said officers arrived on scene to find the body of Sandee Warren, 28, who was shot near the lobby of the motel.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, witnesses told officers that the homicide suspect was in a nearby room at the same motel. The officers found the suspect in a room and he was armed with a handgun.
Multiple shots were fired by Savannah officers and GSP Troopers during which time Joshua Boyd of Garden City, age 24, was shot and died at the scene. The GBI is investigating the shootout.
Savannah police will investigate the homicide case.
No officers were injured.
An autopsy will be performed at the GBI Crime Lab in Savannah.
The GBI will conduct an independent investigation to determine what occurred during the incident. When the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the Chatham County District Attorney’s Office for review.
