Family and friends are remembering the life of John Cooksey II today. The 12-year-old was shot a week and a half ago while leaving the funeral for Ricky Boyd. Cooksey died two days later.

“He was an honorable, innocent child,” said Minister Rosalind Singleton of Jonesville Baptist Church during Cooksey’s funeral.

Police have charged 15-year-old Deion Micah Pinckney with Cooksey’s murder.

“We have to come together to make sure that this stops,” said Minster Todd Rhodes. “Enough is enough with the violence. Enough is enough with the crime here in Savannah.”

“Little John” as he was affectionately called is being remembered as a shining student, football star and peacemaker. But those who loved him most say Cooksey was a young man of faith raised by prayer warriors.

“They are very, you know, hurt at this moment and at this time of grieving in this hour. But they are very strong,” Rhodes said.

Rhodes says the family is a family of faith.

“We do not live in fear and we trust and believe in the word of God,” he said.
