PIKE COUNTY, Ga. (WGXA) -- It's Hero Day at Pike County Primary School.
According to the school, it's a day of celebration of those who have fallen. On Friday February 8, 2019 at 8:30 a.m., students and faculty honored fallen police officer, Chase Maddox.
Officer Maddox died on February 9, 2018 in a shootout that injured two Henry County Deputies and killed a suspect. His son Bradin Maddox is a student at the primary school and tomorrow marks the one year anniversary of his dad's death.
Friday morning, officers with the Pike County Sheriff's Office and the Locus Grove Police Department escorted Bradin to school. Dozens of marked cars filled the streets leading to Bradin's school as students waited anxiously for him to arrive.
The color theme for the day was blue in support of Law Enforcement. Most of the students and faculty showed up decked out in their best blue clothes.
The foundation, Chase It Up Inc., was created in Officer Maddox's memory by his wife Alex Maddox. The school came together to donate and raise money for the foundation.
