Man dead, officer injured in Savannah shooting
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has identified Ricky Jerome Boyd, 20, as the suspect who was shot by police, according to a release.
Boyd was previously wanted for murder and other charges.
The release confirms that he was taken to Memorial University Medical Center where he late died.
This incident is still under investigation.
Bahan Rich is the GBI spokesperson.
"Investigation will take several weeks to complete and then another month or so to get it to the district attorney," said Rich.
Chief Mark Revenew pledged a transparent and thorough investigation moving forward and advised everyone not to rush to judgement.
"I want to remind everybody this is going to be a very long thorough investigation. We ask that people not speculate or make any unsubstantiated comments. When this is all said and done this will all be well documented and reviewable and we will be as transparent as possible," said Revenew.
Police have responded to an officer-involved shooting in Savannah.
The shooting happened at around 6:15 a.m. near the Glen of Robin Hood neighborhood, according to Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police Department.
U.S. Marshalls were reportedly serving a warrant on a man and the man fired at officers, hitting one.
The injured officer was taken to the hospital, but is expected to be okay.
Officers returned fire, hitting the suspect who was then taken to hospital.
Family members have told Fox28 that the man later died. Police have not confirmed that information yet.
An aunt of the man who was reportedly shot and killed told us she is distraught.
She says he was taking his younger siblings to the bus stop when the shooting happened.
Officers say both the suspect and the officer are in the hospital.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigations is investigating the incident.
