Sand fences now shoring up restored Hilton Head Island dunes
Town officials on Hilton Head Island say the town's post-hurricane Matthew Dune Restoration project is moving right along.
The work to install sand fencing along the beach is finished.
The work started earlier this month at Fish Haul Beach Park.
Next the crews will move to Port Royal Plantation, working between beach markers 124 and 130.
Once the sand fences are all in, native dune plants will be installed to help stabilize and expand the dunes, according to the town.
Once finished, about 12 miles of beach will have the fencing to help collect wind blown sand to rebuild the dunes lost to the hurricane.
