SCCPSS board talks communication and transparency at professional retreat
The Savannah Chatham County Public School Board met for day two of a professional development retreat Monday.
They focused on their progress so far as a board and what they can do to address some issues.
They said they're making good progress on policy revisions and are working on creating a social media policy.
They said they hope to get training on that soon so they can use it to be more transparent to the public.
They also focused on how to better communicate with each other.
"You can disagree without being disagreeable, you can be professional, and as a board, we've held each other accountable for violating any of these protocols in terms of how you communicate, what you communicate and the tenure of communication," said Board Member Shawn A. Kachmar.
This board has been known to have some disputes at board meetings.
Some board members suggested they meet in small groups after meetings to have open conversation and address any major issues.
They said they still have a lot of work to do throughout the rest of this year.
