With Valentine's Day right around the corner, the Better Business Bureau warns people looking to start new relationships online.

Romance schemes are when someone pretends to be your love interest in an effort to take your money.

Kelvin Collins with the BBB says these schemes normally develop on dating sites and social media.

Anyone can fall victim to these romance schemes, but older people are typically targeted, according to Collins.

One major red flag: people asking for money early in the relationship.

"Many times, you're going to get the sob story and there's always going to be that sob story that actually prevents them from meeting you," said Collins.

The biggest thing when meeting people online is never wire money to people and put your safety first.
