Police said officers were flagged down in the area of 20th and Capp Streets around 10:30 p.m. by two people who said they were robbed at gunpoint. Officers said they quickly found the vehicle tied to that robbery, and pulled the driver over.

The driver was cooperative with the stop, police said, but officers noticed the Honda Civic's trunk was open. They saw a man in the trunk. Investigators said officers were trying to detain the man in the trunk when an officer-involved shooting happened. People in the neighborhood reported hearing a volley of gunfire.

A third person inside the Honda was not hit by gunfire. She was also detained by police.

The man in the trunk was pronounced dead at the scene, and police said they found a handgun in the trunk.
