Roy Moore makes statement following sex allegations: 'I don't even know the woman'
After yet another woman came forward accusing Senate candidate Roy Moore of sexual misconduct, the Alabama politician held a live press conference Monday evening.
"Thank y'all for being here tonight," Moore said. "I want to address what's been brought out on television today by Gloria Allred and the client that she has about things I allegedly did.
"I want to make it perfectly clear," Moore continued. "The people of Alabama know me, they know my character, they know what I've stood for in the political world for over 40 years.
"I can tell you without hesitation this is absolutely false. I never did what she said I did. I don't even know the woman. I don't know anything about her. I don't even know where the restaurant is or was.
"This is a political maneuver," Moore asserted. "It has nothing to do with reality."
After Moore's statement, his wife Kayla Moore said a few words.
"I've been married to this man for 32 years," Kayla said. "He has never one time lifted a finger against me.
"These things are false," Kayla continued. "And it's ugly -- it's the ugliest politics I've ever been in in my life."
Asked if he would testify under oath, Moore turned and walked away.
Earlier Monday, Attorney Gloria Allred called for a congressional hearing by the Senate Judiciary Committee, where she said her client would testify under oath about an alleged sexual assault.
The announcement comes following last week's Washington Post report in which Leigh Corfman claims that she had a sexual encounter with Roy Moore when she was 14-years-old. Moore was a 32-year old assistant district attorney in Etowah County at the time of the alleged incident.
Beverly Young Nelson told reporters she was working at the Old Hickory House in the late 70s, where Moore was a regular. One night after her shift ended, Moore offered her a ride home -- before allegedly proceeding to attempt to force her to perform sexual acts.
She was 16 years old when the alleged incident occurred.
