While appearing on TSN's SportsCentre, ESPN's Brian Windhorst reported the Raptors and team GM Masai Ujiri has made a "compelling" offer for San Antonio Spurs' Kawhi Leonard.
The Raptors have surfaced as a leading candidate to land Leonard since the Las Vegas Summer League.
And with a report that the Lakers, Sixers, and Celtics have cooled on their chase for Leonard, Toronto could strike at a chance to win the East and make it to the NBA Finals with LeBron James now with the Lakers.
Still, the bidding war among Boston, Philadelphia and the Lakers never materialized. The Los Angeles Clippers, Denver, Phoenix, Portland, Toronto and Washington are among teams who've talked with San Antonio, league sources said.
With Leonard, the Raptors could rise above other power East teams such as Boston and Philadelphia but would Toronto gut their team for a player who might be a 1-year rental?
Though there are no details of what this "compelling" offer is, players such as DeMar DeRozen, OG Anunoby, and Pascal Siakam could be involved in any deal -- not to mention the future draft picks that would likely also be involved -- which could trigger a trade.
Keep in mind the Spurs are the only team that can offer Kawhi the $221 million extension - if they choose to.
In addition, with reports Leonard will join Team USA's mini-camp in Las Vegas and with Gregg Popovich set to lead the camp, that could be a chance for the two sides to mend fences.
